Build Material Planner

Free Tile Calculator Widget

The embedded Tile Calculator takes room or wall measurements, a tile size and a grout joint, and returns the tile count and boxes (with waste for straight, diagonal or herringbone layouts), bags of thinset for the right trowel notch, and bags of grout, with a cost. It fits tile shops, bathroom and kitchen remodelers, and DIY tiling guides.

It's a single iframe plus a one-line credit link — free, responsive, no registration, and no ads or tracking scripts on your page.

Credit line included

The code ends with a one-line credit under the calculator: “Tile Calculator by Build Material Planner”, linking to the full calculator. Please keep it. It's what keeps these calculators free to build and maintain, and it helps other people find them.

Where the Tile Calculator widget fits

  • A tile store's product page or "how much tile do I need" guide
  • A bathroom or backsplash remodeling article
  • A tile installer's estimate request page

How to add it to your site

  • Plain HTML: paste the snippet where you want the calculator to appear.
  • WordPress: add a “Custom HTML” block and paste the snippet in. Avoid the “Paragraph” block — it strips iframes.
  • Squarespace / Wix / Webflow: add an “Embed” or “Custom Code” / “HTML” element and paste the snippet.
  • The second line (embed.js) is optional — it just auto-sizes the frame height. You only need it once per page even with several calculators.

Sizing & responsiveness

Set the width to 100% to fill the column it sits in, or a fixed pixel value for a sidebar or narrow layout. Height is handled for you: with embed.js the frame grows and shrinks to fit the calculator (including after someone runs an estimate); without it, the frame stays at 1250px and everything still works, just with an inner scrollbar on small screens.

Questions from site owners

Is it really free? Any catch?

Yes, free. No account, no API key, no usage limits, and no ads or tracking added to your page. The embed code ends with a one-line credit link back to the calculator; please keep it, as it is what keeps these calculators free.

Will it slow my page down or track my visitors?

No. The calculator loads in an iframe so it never blocks your page, it ships no third-party ad or analytics scripts onto your site, and it sets no cookies on your visitors. The optional resizer script is a few KB and loads asynchronously.

Does it count the grout joint?

Yes. Each tile is counted with its grout joint, which is why the count is a little lower than dividing the area by the tile size, and the grout estimate comes from that joint's volume.

Does it estimate thinset and grout?

Yes. Thinset bags come from the trowel notch (picked from the tile size by default) and grout bags from the joint width and tile thickness, with a warning when the grout type doesn't suit the joint.

Does it work for walls as well as floors?

Yes. Visitors switch to walls and enter width and height, subtracting windows or a tub.
